Thompsons Real Estate

Thompsons is a small community of just over 200 residents west of Houston in Fort Bend County. Located on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railway line and Farm Road 2759, Thompsons is eight miles from Sugar Land, twelve miles southeast of Richmond and approximately forty miles south east of downtown Houston. The land area for the town covers just over 6.2 square miles.

The town at one time was called Thompsons' Switch because of its location on the railway line. By 1896, the community had an estimated 300 residents, and Thompsons boasted a cotton gin, general store, and two saloons. The community had a population of 104 in 1900. From the 1920s through the mid-1940s the town reported a population of seventy-five. The Cane Belt Railroad built a second line through the community in 1930, and in 1940 the town included a school, a cotton gin, a store, and two churches. Thompsons incorporated in 1979.

According to census 2000 data, the median income for a family in Thompsons was $32,321. Students attend the schools of the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District. While the town population is small, there is significant diversity within the town, with a balance of ethnic groups making up the general population.

Excellent recreation opportunities abound in nearby Brazos Bend State Park, one of Texas’s most beautiful and rewarding state parks. The George Observatory is located within the park. More than 270 species of birds have been sighted here, and the prehistoric-looking American alligator is the park's most noteworthy resident. Hiking and biking trails meander through the park's varied terrains, and several lakes offer excellent fishing.
