Texas City Real Estate

Texas City is a vibrant city in Galveston County on the Texas Gulf Coast. With an estimated population of 44,274, Texas City is the sixth largest municipality in the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan area.

It is impossible to talk about Texas City without talking about the Texas Oil industry in which Texas City has carved out a solid and integral niche as a refinery town. The BP (formerly Amoco) facility in Texas City is the United State's third largest oil refinery, employing over 2,000 people and processing 460,000 barrels of crude oil each day. Texas City's path to riches however was paved as much with setbacks and disasters as it was triumphs and feats of endurance.

Perhaps best well known for Texas City disaster in 1947, generally regarded as the worst industrial accident in U.S. history, when an ammonium nitrate explosion killed over 500 people. Two additional major explosions, five major hurricanes, two depressions and two world wars later, old timers refer to Texas City as "The Town that would not die".

Because of its ample room to grow, Texas City and the north side of Galveston Bay as a whole is replete with an abundance of housing options. Texas City holds the distinction of recently being named an "All American City" by the National Civic League.

Throughout the Texas City-La Marque communities, new home construction is setting a record pace. Home designs range from the ultramodern to the traditional two-story brick showpieces to sprawling ranch-style residences on large lots to quaint country-style homes. Texas City available housing stock totals around 12,400 mostly single family units. Median area home value is about $58,000. Texas City is home to 15,479 households. According to year 2000 census data, the median income for a family in Texas City was $42,393. Most of Texas City is within the Texas City Independent School District. Texas City High School serves the TCISD portion of Texas City.
