Sugar Land Real Estate

The city of Sugar Land beats at the heart of the economic powerhouse known as the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown Metropolitan area - ranked the 7th largest and most diverse area in the country.

Located in Ft. Bend County southwest of Houston, Sugar Land is the third largest city in the Metro-area and the fastest growing city in Texas. Drawing from the phenomenal growth experienced by the Houston area as a whole ballooning over 158 percent to near 78,000 over the last decade.

Sugar Land is perhaps best known as the home of Imperial Sugar. Though the company's refinery processes have moved elsewhere, Sugar Land is still home to Imperial Sugar's corporate headquarters and proudly retains the company's logo.

The explosive growth over the last decade spelled opportunity for city leaders who actively began recruiting and cultivating employers. Like clockwork a young and enviable professional workforce followed. Sugar Land now boasts an inclusive community of top-notch industry professionals from the fields of engineering, construction, communications, energy exploration, technology, electronics and research.

A growing list of national accolades and recognition for its long-range growth management testify to Sugar Land's commitment to cultivating a highly desirable family friendly community. Most recently, Sugar Land ranked as the eighth best place to raise a family in the prestigious publication: The Top 100 Affordable Communities in America. Another recent survey judged Sugar Land "Best of the Best" in "Standard of Living," "Education," "Health and Safety" and "Lifestyle." The city placed in the top 10 for both "Standard of Living" and "Education." Demographics, standard of living, education, lifestyle, health and safety were the criteria.

Though the personal vehicle remains the primary means of commute (until the city's light rail plans are realized), Sugar Land's modern, pedestrian friendly Town Square is prime example of new urbanism done right. This nostalgic pedestrian-friendly city center makes exploring Sugar Land's central business district a temptation not to be resisted. Stop in for coffee or a light lunch at one of several pleasant sidewalk cafes, eateries and gift shops. Stroll past the mid-rise office buildings, where chain and local restaurants beckon the hungry traveler.

Sugar Land housing is around 80 percent residential homes where modest 3 bedroom/2bathroom homes just over 2,000 square feet in the $110s and new construction 6,000 square feet 4 bedrooms-2bathroom homes beginning in the low $300s. The median home price in Sugar Land in 2005 was a very affordable $158,000. A healthy stock of condominiums, town homes and bungalows add a unique and abundant range of housing options to the mix.

Sugar Land hosts its economy through diversification, corporate vitality, and quality of life and was ranked as one of the "Top Cities in Texas" for business relocation and expansion by both Outlook Magazine and Texas Business. Industries calling Sugar Land home are as diverse as its resident population.
