North Forest was one of the original subdivisions built here in the early 1970's for Houstonians seeking moderately priced homes in the highly rated Aldine ISD close to the North Freeway. The opening of Intercontinental Airport in 1969 transformed the intersection of 1-45 and the Beltway into a commercial crossroads. North Forest is located just west of I-45, just two minutes north of Beltway 8 and south of busy FM 1960.
The subsequent rapid development of office and commercial space in this area around anchored by Greenspoint Mall provided the jobs to support massive construction of apartment complexes, which now dominate the southern portion of this area. Residential development in the northern parts of this region leading toward the I-45 intersection with FM 1960 focused more on single-family housing and master-planned resort communities.
With its great location, North Forest is never far from great entertainment. Some twenty movie theaters are in the area, plus an extensive list of restaurants, night clubs, golf courses, both public and private including three of the finest country clubs in Houston, Champions, Raveneaux and Northgate. The Aldine or Spring Independent School Districts, ranked as two of the best in the area, serves North Forest residents.
