Memorial Park Real Estate

As much as the Galleria is the high-energy nexus of downtown Houston; Memorial Park is its soul. One of the largest urban parks in the United States, the park covers approximately 1,466 acres of prime real estate inside West Loop 610. One of Houston's primary environmental and historical assets, Memorial Park is located on the former grounds of Camp Logan -- a World War I Army training camp.

Memorial Drive runs through the park, heading east to downtown Houston and west to the 610 Loop. I-10 borders the park to the north. The corridor surrounding the park includes many of Houston's most historic sites and neighborhoods. Residential areas, in the west, adjacent to the park, are rapidly re-developing with high-end single-family homes. The eastern end of the area includes First and Sixth Wards, which date from the mid-19th Century. Sixth Ward contains the city's best Victorian era buildings. The park is adjacent to the Camp Logan, Crestwood, Rice Military and Memorial neighborhoods.

On the south side of Memorial Drive, there are miles of multi-use trails through the woods, a 'picnic' loop used heavily by road cyclists, softball fields, sand volleyball courts and a field for playing rugby or soccer. The park also has facilities for tennis, softball, swimming, track, croquet, volleyball, skating, cycling and a three-mile running course. The park is very popular with Houston joggers. The park is home to the Seymour Lieberman Exercise Trail; a three-mile crushed granite pathway that sees almost 3 million visits annually.

The park includes Texas' top rated municipal 18-hole golf course, which opened in 1936, and recently a $7 million renovation. The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center, an arboretum and botanical garden, sits on 155 acres within the park. The Nature Center building was constructed in 1967 and is stewarded by The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center (HANC). One of the first nature education facilities for children in the state of Texas, HANC provides nature and educational services to over 200,000 visitors annually.
