Lake Houston Real Estate

Thirty miles northeast of Houston, Lake Houston came to life in 1953 when the City of Houston built it to replace Sheldon Lake, as Houston's primary source of water. Today, the Lake Houston community, a small collection of subdivisions adjacent to the lake's east bank and contain portions of outlying areas of Atascocita, has a population of around 4,164. The majority of the population in this area resides in Lakewood Heights, a single-family subdivision. In 1965, the City annexed all subdivisions immediately adjacent to the lake.

The median household income in this area $61,000 with home prices ranging from the $50's to well over $300K, depending on proximity to the lakeshore. The area is within the Huffman Independent School District.

Water recreational opportunities, boating, fishing and swimming, make Lake Houston ideal for a weekend getaway or for those looking for a unique suburban enclave to call home. Lake Houston is stocked with species of fish intended to improve the utility of the reservoir for recreational fishing. Fish present in Lake Houston include catfish, largemouth bass, white crappie, and bluegill. At the northern end of the lake lies Lake Houston State Park: 4,919.5 acres of camping, nature study, bird watching, hiking, biking, and horseback riding opportunities are available. But remember its BYH: Bring your own horse!
