Glenshire is an established subdivision in the Greater Fondren Southwest Area of the Houston Metropolitan Area. Located at the southwest corner of Beltway 8 near the Hwy 59 intersection, the center of the area was undeveloped until the 1970s when construction began in Fondren Southwest. This is around the time the neighborhoods of Braeburn, Valley West and Glenshire began construction.
More than 41,000 people reside within the Fondren Southwest Community, including the Glenshire neighborhood with housing prices ranging from the low $70's to over $200,000. The area's convenient location and commitment to quality have caught the attention of the business community as well. Over 800 businesses employing some 6,400 residents are located in the community. New development in the area includes the revitalized Braesgate Center, home to the largest Albertson's grocery store in Houston.
Many of the homes built in Fondren Southwest are large and expensive, frequently contemporary in style. While much land was reserved for apartment construction adding thousands of along the major thoroughfares, the market for rentals appears to be saturated at present. With more than 1,500 homes, Fondren Southwest is a mixture of apartments and residential subdivisions. The community's ethnic, economic, and cultural diversity remains the area's greatest strength.
