Cypress Real Estate

Twenty miles northwest of downtown Houston, the community of Cypress anchors a key residential area in one of the fastest growing corridors in the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown Metropolitan Area. Located between Northwest Highway (US 290) and Texas 249, Cypress, or Cypress-Fairbanks, is part of a diverse and rapidly growing collection towns, communities and businesses that comprise northwest Harris County. According to year 2000 census data, Cypress-Fairbanks reported a population of 18,527. The affluent area ranks 50th in the top 100 highest-income urban areas in the United States

The Cypress-Fairbanks area was once sought for the healing powers promised by a hot artesian well discovered by oil prospectors one mile from Cypress. This find resulted in the Houston Hotwell Sanitarium and Hotel that attracted visitors from around the globe. Today, the area is sought for its strategic location, excellent schools and natural beauty, much of which has been consciously preserved in the master-planned communities that populate the area.

In addition to being within a reasonable commute to Houston's huge job base, the reasonably priced land in this area has attracted the attention of residential, business and industry development alike. The re-location of Compaq Computer Corp. here in 1982, among others, has fed the growing interest in the area and helped form the conditions necessary for the area's strong growth.

As of early 2006, new housing and business development shows no signs of waning. While multi-family housing is limited in this area, cheap land, good location and excellent have resulted in a diverse assortment of single family housing options most ranging from the low $100's to the low $400's. The recent opening of the Sam Houston Toll way, Houston's outermost Loop, added excellent access to the south and to the east.

Cy-Fair Independent School District serves the area and is second only to Houston ISD in enrollment size within Harris County. Strong community and parental support for the district have helped provide the resources that have produced high school graduates whose test scores and college enrollment ratios exceed state and national averages.
