Channelview Real Estate

From its historic roots as a settlement for freed slaves and veterans from the Texas Revolution to its prominence this century, as a powerful industrial complex, Channelview's powerful influence continues to be felt across the Houston Ship Channel.

Bordered by Buffalo Bayou to the south and Interstate 10 to the north, the Channelview Area has a population of around 29,685 people according to the 2000 census, including 9,189 households, and 7,369 families. Once a labyrinth of dense forestland and few inhabitants, Channelview's proximity to Coastal traffic by way of the Houston Shipping Channel has, within the space of 100 years, transformed itself into a modern industrial player in the region.

Channelview is considered a member of the North Channel area - a collection of small communities in the northern half of the Houston Shipping Channel industrial complex. Most residents of Channelview work in the shipping channel industry or make the 30-minute commute to downtown Houston. Channelview residents are served by the Channelview Independent School District.

The median income for a household in Channelview is $45,638. Most of the existing housing stock is single-family residential with newer homes located outside the city in neighboring subdivisions. The area's low cost of living and higher than average median income have kept the median home price hovering at around $80,000.

The area's outstanding highway system makes Houston's sports, entertainment and arts readily accessible to the area, and gives Channelview residents the advantage of urban amenities to complement the hometown, suburban setting of their neighborhoods.
