George Bush Intercontinental Airport is 23 miles north of downtown Houston between Interstate 45 and Highway 59, inside the Houston city limits. The seventh largest airport in the world is sandwiched between the communities of Aldine to the east and Humble to the west. It is the ninth busiest for total passengers in the United States as well as the sixth busiest airport in the world for total aircraft movements according to 2005 data. Recently Bush Intercontinental was named the fourth-fastest growing airport in the world. As the second largest air facility in Texas, after Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Bush Intercontinental has flights to parts of the United States, as well as to Canada, Central and South America, Europe, and Asia.

Bush Intercontinental also has the highest on-time performance of any major United States airport, according to the latest United States Department of Transportation report. With 30 destinations in Mexico, Bush Intercontinental offers service to more Mexican destinations than any other U.S. airport. Bush Intercontinental is also headquarters to Continental Airlines, and Bush Intercontinental is Continental's largest hub, with 771 daily departures.

Originally known and Houston Intercontinental Airport, Bush Intercontinental was opened in 1969 bringing all passenger traffic from William P. Hobby Airport with it. Hobby reopened two years later to commercial traffic, though virtually all international traffic remained at Intercontinental and Hobby was relegated to more regional traffic. The airport was renamed George Bush Intercontinental Airport/Houston in 1997, after George H. W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States and father of President George W. Bush.

A unique characteristic of Bush Intercontinental Airport is its prominent display of artwork by several nationally recognized artists, commissioned in 1998. The median annual family income in this area is $32,844 with median home values averaging around $66,255.
