Belfort is part of the growing Golfcrest/Treveille community located outside Loop 610 in southeast Houston between Mykawa and the Gulf Freeway (Interstate 45). In addition to the Belfort community, subdivisions within this area include Overbrook, Bayou Oaks, Santa Rosa, Greenway, Lum Terrace, Golfcrest, Kings Court, Tropicana Village and Oakland Plaza. Most of the homes in the area date from frantic residential development following WW II.

Many of the more expensive homes were built on heavily wooded sites adjacent to Sims Bayou. The area has experienced a tremendous amount of residential and business development over the last decade. A number of small industrial facilities are located near Long Drive in the western part of the community and provide a number of jobs for area residents. The original Golfcrest Country Club site was redeveloped with a stadium for Houston ISD, public housing and a City park.

According to census 2000 data, the median income for a family household in Belfort is around $33,240 and the median home value for the area stands at around $54,010.
